Evidence of me drowning in all my good ideas →
That’s what Clarence Saunders, the founder of the first supermarket chain in America, said when asked where the name of his company came from — Piggly Wiggly.
I’m no Clarence Saunders (thank God, he had a massive gambling problem), but I understand that creativity seems to come from some abstract storm cloud of chaos. We, the brave writers and artists of the world, have to stare down the tempest with only a pen and Photoshop and say, trembling, “Stand down, bitch.” For a while, all that kept me from running was a love for the written word, but one degree and a whole lot of late nights later, I’m not afraid anymore.
So I’ll continue to fearlessly embrace creativity and trust that whatever I write, it’ll be better than “Piggly Wiggly.”
